Mtirala off-road: what to expect on the trail
ATV, buggy or horse? What to wear, who can ride, and what happens when it rains in the wettest corner of Georgia.

Mtirala is the rainiest, greenest corner of Georgia, and the jungle trails around it are made for riding. The base at Chakvistavi is about 35 minutes north of Batumi, at 250 metres. From there the loop climbs through the forest and across the river to a viewpoint at around 420 metres, looking down the valley toward the sea.
ATV, buggy or horse?
- ATV quad: one or two riders. Priced per vehicle.
- Can-Am Maverick buggy: seats two. Priced per vehicle.
- Horse: priced per person, suited to ages 8 and up.
You do not need any driving experience. Your instructor shows you the controls at the base, and you can always ride as a passenger instead. Children ride as passengers in the buggy or with an adult on the quad. Tell us their ages when you book.
What to wear
- Closed shoes you don’t mind getting muddy
- Long trousers
- A light rain jacket

Bring some cash for snacks and tea at the base.
What if it rains?
It usually does, a little, and the mud makes the trails more fun. If the weather makes the route unsafe, we move your date for free. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the tour.
